Usos del verbo to be: 3. Existencia de personas, animales y cosas


Existencia de personas, animales y cosas
Para  expresar la existencia de personas, animales y cosas se usa: el verbo to be precedido del adverbio de lugar “there”. El verbo to be definirá en que tiempo verbal está la oración o pregunta y en que número (singular o plural).

a.     En presente:
·        There is: Hay (Presente. Singular)
There is a car in the garaje. (Hay un carro en el garage)
·        There are: Hay (Presente. Plural)
There are four (4) cars in the garaje. (Hay cuatro carros en el garage)

         
b.    En pasado:
·        There was: Había (Pasado. Singular)
There was a dog in my house yesterday. (Había un perro en mi casa ayer)
·        There were: Habían (Pasado. Plural)
There were two (2) roses in our garden last spring. (Habían dos rosas en nuestro jardín la primavera pasada)


c.     En futuro: Se usa el verbo to be en su forma simple (be)
·       There will be: Habrá (singular y plural)
Singular: There will be a meeting tomorrow (Habrá una reunión mañana)
Plural: There will be two (2) tests next week (Habrán dos pruebas la próxima semana)

   
d.    Presente perfecto: Se usa el verbo to be en participio pasado (been) precedido del verbo “have” actuando como auxiliar.
·       There has been: Ha habido (singular)
There has been a lot of snow (Ha habido bastante nieve)
*La nieve aunque puede ser mucha, es algo incontable, por lo tanto se toma como singular.
There has been a class (Ha habido una clase)
·       There have been: Han habido (plural)
     There have been three (3) students today. (Han habido tres estudiantes hoy)

    3. Was there a snake in my bedroom?
    Yes, there was a snake in my bedroom.
    No, there wasn´t a snake in my bedroom.
    4. were there six apples in the fridge?
    Yes,there were six apples in the fridge.
    No, there weren´t six apples in the fridge.
    5. Is there a math teacher in my school?
    Yes, there is a math teacher in my school.
    No,there isn´t a math teacher in my school.
